The Good, The Bad and The Ugly....

(this activity is from the book mentioned below 104 Activities That Build: By Alanna Jones. Its really laid back and awesome for getting the conversation started on appropriate responses/coping skills).

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly....

*Three boxes (or three designated sections)
       one marked good, one bad and one ugly.

*Note cards (if using a box)

*Writing utensil(s).

Have the client mark one column (or box) Good, then one Bad, then the last Ugly. Prompt your client with a situation (either utilize movie clips, role play for them or verbally state the situation). You can also utilize 'real life situations' that have occurred in their daily lives as examples. Have the client state a Good response to the situation, a Bad and an Ugly response (either write example in each column or on a note card and place in appropriate box). 
When you are finished read the responses together. What was their example of Good? How could it be better? Or is it perfect? What about the Ugly? Ask the client if they have ever responded how they identified--have them state what happened (consequences or benefits?). The practice appropriate responses they can utilize in the future.
